CREDO

I believe grief is a process that involves a lot of time, energy and determination. I won't "get over it" in a hurry, so don't rush me!

I believe grief is intensely personal. This is my grief. Don't tell me how I should be doing it. Don't tell me what's right or what's wrong. I'm doing it my way, in my time.

I believe grief is affecting me in many ways. I am being affected spiritually, physically, emtionally, socially and mentally. If I'm not acting like my old self, it's because I'm not my old self and some days I don't even understand myself.

I believe I will be affected in some way by this loss the rest of my life. As I get older, I will have new insights into what this death means to me. My loved one will continue to be part of my life and influence me until the day I die.

I believe I am being changed by this process. I see life differently. Some things that were once important to me aren't any more. Some things I used to pay little or no attention to are now important.

I think a new me is emerging, so don't be surprised - and don't stand in the way.

My Tribute to Tony

For those fans who were not able to attend Tony's service yesterday, I wanted to at least let you know what I said for my Tony.

Thank you to everyone, all his fans across the world, for loving Tony like you did- you all meant more to him then you will ever know. You are all in my heart and we will always be friends for the rest of my life.

On behalf of Tony and myself, I want to thank you all for coming to help us celebrate and remember the life of this remarkable and larger than life man.

As Tony would always say, “I greet you with cordiality and good cheer.”

Tony and I have been together for 16 years, we would have been married 12 years next month. What a wonderful time that has been. Everyone here knows “Tony of the Movies”, I would like to take this time to honor the man behind the Matinee Idol.

As you may have already read, Tony passed in his sleep. He had been ill and had actually almost passed away in the hospital one day a few months ago. But in true Tony style, he fought his way back, in fact he recovered enough to come home. Those of us who were with him these last few months, have come to realize that he came home so that we would all have time to say good bye. This was his final gift- time to talk, to love, to kiss and hold hands, to sit together and watch a movie, to hug. To help us let go gracefully and to finally accept that his long and full life was naturally coming to an end. An end that came peacefully and quietly in the early evening, on his terms and at just the right time.

I have always told people that Tony was just the that way you always hoped he would be. By that I mean- that charming handsome man that you feel in love with on the screen- that was the real Tony. He was hilarious, kind, gentle, tough and strong, highly intelligent and incredibly witty.

Tony absolutely adored his fans and loved it when people would approach him for an autograph or to take a photo. At signings and events, he always made sure to spend time with each person in line, to make everyone feel comfortable and appreciated. We would watch as fans nervously approached with shaking hands but they always left with a big smile and stars in their eyes.

Tony was an enigma, a word he loved.

On the one hand a “yeaderman”- an everyman. He was a Husband, a Father, a Grandfather, a Brother, an Uncle, and a Friend. A hardworking man who came from very humble beginnings, a son of immigrants, a patriot who defended his country, a proud American citizen. A man who walked the streets of the World unencumbered, always curious, always approachable.

He was for the most part self educated. A man who barely finished High School but who could comfortably converse with Prince and Pauper alike, from Presidents to the working man.

An amazingly creative person, Tony wrote multiple books and volumes of beautiful poetry. But what he was the most proud of was his artwork. Tony loved to paint and he began drawing at a young age on the sidewalks of New York using his father’s tailor chalk. His acrylics are brightly colored, his line drawings precise and clean. But, to really appreciate the incredible workings of his inner mind, one only has to look at his boxes that he created. These artistic assemblages are of unrelated objects placed together in such a way as to evoke emotions unique to each viewer. They perfectly depict his complex personality and, right up to his death, he was working on his newest book to share them with the World.

Of course, we all know the Mega Watt Movie Star- bigger than the silver screen could ever contain. Someone who was revered, looked up to, and emulated. His immense body of work bridged the gap between Old Hollywood and New Hollywood; he was a true Movie Star in every sense of the word and he loved every minute of it.

One of Tony’s favorite poems is Mr. Cory by Edwin Arlington Robinson. He could, and would, recite it by heart. A part of this poem just personified Tony perfectly and I wanted to share it with you.

“Whenever Richard Cory went down town,
We the people on the pavement looked at him;
He was a gentleman from sole to crown
Clean favored and imperially slim.

He was always quietly arrayed,
And he was human when he talked;
But still he fluttered pulses when he said
Good Morning and he glittered when he walked.”

Those of you who knew Tony well, will remember his fondness for white shorts and white sweaters and his ever present Stetson- this was all he ever wanted to wear. Of course, he loved to dress up for the evening and when he did, we always called him “The Armani Cowboy”. For Tony it really was “Armani or your Life”. But, if he could get away with it, and Tony could get away with almost anything- white shorts it was. Tony is even now wearing his favorite outfit- he is being laid to rest in his white shorts, his very favorite white sweater that had to be mended more times that can be counted, his Armani scarf around his neck and with his well worn Stetson under his arm.

He is also being laid to rest with his traveling bag, packed full with what he would always refer to as, “his goods”. In his bag we have placed:

Meaningful Photos and letters

A model of his car, the 25th Anniversary Edition Trans Am with what Tony called, “the screaming chicken” on it’s hood.

His favorite pair of driving gloves, Tony always wore driving gloves, even when he had stopped driving. After his illness in 2006, he was no longer able to, and was extremely fond of telling anyone who would listen that “Jillie won’t let me drive”. He was always, right up to the end, plotting ways to get his driver’s license back and convince me that he was still able to drive. But, more than once in the years before, I had arrived at the scene of a minor fender bender involving Tony, only to find him charming the people and signing their damaged hood or bumper.

As a child who grew up in poverty during the Depression, Tony always felt secure with money in his “kip” as he always called it. Of course, being old school, Tony didn’t call money ”money”, he called it Dough. So Tony, you have some dough in your kip, just in case you might need it.

We have included, a copy of his favorite poem Mr. Cory and a copy of Anthony Adverse, the book that he read while in the Navy and which later became part of his new Hollywood name,
Some of his Navy medals, Tony was a proud sailor and a World War Two Veteran.

His late son Nicholas’ baby shoes that Tony always brought with him wherever he traveled,
A patch from Hungary, Tony loved to speak Hungarian and was extremely proud of his heritage.
Tony loved to collect gold coins, so we added some of those.

His two favorite watches,

A yarmulke from the Dohany Synagogue in Budapest which he had helped to restore in his father’s name,

A bag of interesting colored stones that he had collected during his travels, which included stones from his friend Dodi Fayed’s grave,

A DVD of his film clips,

His “IB” which is actually his iPhone- We don’t know why he called it his “IB”, but he did and after a while so did we. Tony loved to “work” on his IB.

A few items from his Father’s Tailor shop,

A pair of sunglasses and a pair of reading glasses,

Seven packets of Splenda- Tony loved to sweeten everything with Splenda- no less than seven packets. Tony had a huge sweet tooth.

A Percocet,

A pair of sleeping eye blinders, which he always wore to sleep or to nap,

A picture and a recent poem he wrote to his little dog, Bronx,

The ashes from his dog, Jack, who was found abandoned in the desert a few years ago and who fell in love with Tony instantly and faithfully followed him everywhere. When Jack passed on, Tony kept his ashes. Now Jack is following Tony again.

We also included some of his favorite paint brushes and some paint and a sketch pad and a pen. Tony loved to draw on anything at anytime. Many of his friends would leave the dinner table with a napkin or even part of the table cloth that Tony had drawn on. He loved to do that.

An accomplished Fencer, he is also being laid to rest with one of his favorite Fencing sabers at his side.

As sad as it is to say good bye to our beloved Tony, we are so happy for him that he had such a long and amazing life. As Tony was fond of saying, “It would have killed an ordinary man.”

I want to thank you, sweetheart, for taking me, a simple horse girl from San Diego, on the ride of a lifetime. Thank you for all you have done for me. You will remain in my heart always and someday, I will take your hand again and we will continue on our journey together. I just want to share one very funny story that I will always treasure. Because we had such a large age difference, soon after we met, Tony was asked if it was dangerous to be with such a young woman? To which he immediately quipped, “Well, if she dies, she dies”.

Tony loved animals but it wasn’t until we met that he realized just how much. When I met Tony, he did not have any animals and his LA home was filled with pristine white carpet. But during these years here in Vegas, our house has always been filled with barking dogs, cats, and injured animals of all kinds including a paralyzed chicken, Ernesto. He even helped me care for and bottle feed an orphaned baby burro who lived at our Anthem home for 10 days until he could move to our ranch. Tony loved to visit our ranch, Shiloh. In fact, right before he became ill this last time, we were planning to build a house and permanently move out there. He was excited about the change and many times these last few weeks when asked about living at Shiloh, he would say “it’s going to be fabulous”.

Let us remember Tony as a gentleman, a kind, compassionate and elegant man, with a loving and generous heart, an iron will, a strong work ethic, a stubborn streak, a brilliant sense of humor and an enlightened way of moving through life. We won’t forget his unmistakable voice or his infectious laugh. As a friend simply said- “He was a thrill to know”.

His journey here has ended, but I know that he is somewhere even now, grinning that charming smile with that mischievous twinkle in his blue eyes, reaching out to take the hand of a friend or loved one. I can still hear that incredible voice saying, “Hi, I’m Tony”.
What a Life.

What a Man.

He was, as one loving fan so eloquently put it,

Tony's Memorial Service

Tony's Memorial Service will be held on Monday, October 4th at 11am at the Palm Mortuary on Eastern Blvd in Las Vegas, NV.

His service is open to the public and to all of his loving fans and friends.

Tony is doing awesome and really progressing with his physical therapy. He is getting back on his feet and feeling good. He is getting bored already and starting to look ahead to coming projects!

He is in the hospital this afternoon for a simple procedue and will be home in 24 hours.

That old TC charm is still going strong and he is enjoying flirting with his nurses!

Tony is doing better, we are now in a physical rehabilitation hospital to help him get his strength back up. He is being his stubborn self, which is a very good sign! We will most likely be here for a few weeks, but we expect TC to have a full recovery and to be able to get on with his life...

Tony is doing well, still resting and healing in the Hospital. He is working hard so that he can get out and go home.

Tony is a fighter with a very strong will. As Tony always says, "It would have killed an ordinary man".

I know everyone has probably heard by now that TC is in the Hospital. He had a COPD episode two weeks ago (like an asthma attack) while at home. Tony suffers from COPD from his years smoking when he was younger. He quit over 30 years ago, but the damage was already done.

He is doing well and responding to treatment. He is resting quietly and should be back to his old self in a few weeks.

Thank you to everyone who has wished him well! I will make sure he reads the messages. He will like that. :o)

The Turner Classic Film Festival in Hollywood

I just returned home from a weekend in Hollywood where I attended the first TCM Film Festival, it was a wonderful festival and I encourage anyone who loves movie to attend next year's festival. Everyone had such a great time!

Our Painted Pony's Dillards Debut!

The Shiloh Figurine was released at Dillards here in Las Vegas on Saturday- it was a huge success! One hundred Shiloh figurines sold out in the first 20 minutes! People waited in line for up to 4 hours to purchase Shiloh and meet Tony who was available to autograph the figurines. Sadly, some people had to leave empty handed but everyone got a chance to meet Tony and everyone had a good time. We really appreciate everyone showing up and showing support of the Shiloh Horses!

We also got a chance to meet some of the other Painted Pony artists whose Ponies were also released for sale. Their artwork is just beautiful and we were so happy to be in the other artists' company. It really is an honor for all of us to be associated with, and to work with, such talented people.

We will be offering Shiloh Figurines on both Shiloh's website and Tony's website within the next week. All Shiloh's purchased off of these website, or at the rescue, will be hand signed by Tony. These figurines will sell for $75.00.

Note: We will be selling Shiloh Figurines at this year's Pet-a-palooza on April 10th. We will be offering unsigned Shilohs at a special reduced price of only $35.00 at this event. Tony will be at Pet-a-palooza from noon until 2pm to sign the figurines- so if you are in the area, come on by Shiloh's booth!

A HUGE Thank you to both The Trail of the Painted Ponies and Enesco, the Manufacturer. Painted Ponies presented Shiloh a donation check for $2,000.00 and Enesco presented us with a donation check for $1,000.00. THANK YOU!

Who Wants to be a Millioniare

Tony’s “Movie Star Question” will air MONDAY, MARCH 1. The question will be:

“Posing as a wealthy oil tycoon, my character famously says to Marilyn Monroe, “Oh, well, I guess some like it hot. I personally prefer” what? A: The cool side of the pillow, B: St. Moritz, C: Classical music, D: A nice gin and tonic."

As any Tony Curtis fan would know, the correct answer is “C,” but you’ll have to tune-in on Monday to “Netflix Million Dollar Movie Week” to see if the contestant in the hot seat -- NYC firefighter, Ralph Taliento III -- will be able to correctly answer the question!

My Mexican Vacation

Jillie and I just returned from a wonderful and relaxing vacation in Cabo San Lucas. We were gone almost two weeks and had the best time.

The collectible Shiloh figurine will be available in stores (and on my website as well as Shiloh's) beginning in March. I am so happy with the way it turned out! This is one of my licensed products, with a portion of the proceeds going directly to the Shiloh Horses.

We are heading to Atlanta at the end of the week to officially announce the "Shiloh" figure for the Trail of the Painted Ponies. I have been told that the first 100 Limited Edition figures have already been sold out! But, don't worry I will be offering them for sale on both my website and Shiloh's website. They will be available to pre order in Febuary and will ship out in March. Should be exciting!

Speaking of Shiloh, Jillie and I taped an interview out at the ranch back in October. This segment will be shown on Horse TV.

We are so excited! On our way to Sedona, we stopped in Carefree, AZ to meet "Shiloh", the Painted Pony!

Ready to reveal him for the first time!

Here he is! Shiloh is incredible- wait until you see it in person. He is life size and covered with Tony's cat paintings. This life size Shiloh will be installed at Shiloh Horse Rescue, while the smaller collectible figurines will be available wherever Painted Ponies are sold (as well as in our Shiloh Shop at the rescue).

Isn't he beautiful? He has so much character to him.

Shiloh will stand at the rescue to honor ALL of the horses who have died as a result of the horrible Horse Slaughter industry. He will remind us to keep fighting and standing up for the welfare of all horses.

I have been so busy, sorry I haven't posted in a while.

I am doing some German press over the next few days as Germany just bought the rights to my autobiography, American Prince.

Then, early next week, we head to my art show at the Goldenstein Gallery, as well as a book signing and movie screening in Sedona, AZ.

I have been commissioned to create a "Trail of the Painted Ponies" pony which will be named "Shiloh". A large portion of the proceeds will go to the Shiloh Horses and we will actually have a life size statue of Shiloh installed at Shiloh. More info and pictures to come!

I had an absolutely great time at the Hotel Del Coronado this past weekend! I met so many wonderful people, everyone had fun and it is such a beautiful place.

The first evening I must have signd over 400 autographs on books, artwork, photos, etc. The second day, it must have been 500.

Back Home and Feeling Good...

We are back in Las Vegas and I am feeling more like my old self. I feel healthy and ready to get back to work.

I apologize again to everyone who showed up at Sardis and the Times Square Event, I wanted to be there, but just couldn't. Thank you for thinking of me and wanting to see me, it means a lot to me and my family. I even had the large poster that evetyone signed set up in my hospital room...

I will be back in New York in November and will hopefully be signing at Sardis then. I will also be seeing some of you at the Hotel Del Coronado in September, we are all looking forward to that weekend.

Tony Curtis- Misconceptions and Facts

This post is to dispel some of the misconceptions and falsehoods that we hear from people about Tony. We will continue to add things as we hear them.

1) Tony was born in the Flower Hospital in Manhattan and grew up in Manhattan and the Bronx. He did not live in Brooklyn.

2) Tony was born Bernard Schwartz and LEGALLY changed his name to Anthony Curtis when he began acting in films. He prefers to be called Tony, not Bernie.

3) Tony is Hungarian, not Italian. Tony is fluent in Hungarian and takes great pride in his Hungarian roots.

4) Tony was very ill in late 2006 and early 2007. He did not have cancer or a stroke. He had pneumonia which caused him to placed on a ventilator for a month. This resulted in muscle loss, weakness and nerve damage. Tony went through intensive rehab to learn to speak, walk, and write again. Tony's mind was never affected, he is just as sharp as he always was.

5) Tony can walk. He uses a wheelchair, and at times a cane, for long distances.

6) Tony loves to travel and loves to meet his fans. Tony will always sign an autograph or take a photo with you.

7) All items that come from Curtis Enterprises (Books, artwork, photos, memorabilia, etc) are hand signed by Tony. All of these items can be ordered from Tony's website.

8) Tony loves his Stetson cowboy hats but he is not from Texas. He jokingly refers to himself as "The Armani Cowboy".

9) Tony has been painting and drawing his entire life. His art has been displayed all over the World and he loves to paint.

10) Tony joined the US Navy when he was 16, he served in the Submarine Service in WWII. He is proud supporter of the US Navy Memorial.

11) Tony has been married five times, not six times as is sometimes reported.

12) Tony is Jewish and is a supporter of the Dohany Synagogue in Budapest.

Tony is out of ICU and feeling more like himself. We will remain in New York another few days as we wait for him to get a little bit stronger before we travel all the way back home to Las Vegas. He should make a full recovery.

I just wanted to update all of Tony's fans about his condition. I have been posting updates on his Facebook page.

On Weds evening, we had Tony admitted to a New York Hospital. He had suddenly aspirated food down into his lungs while out at dinner and was having trouble breathing. He was admitted to the ICU unit, where he remains at this point. He is stable and getting better every hour, so we think he will be able to move out of the ICU this weekend and into a regular room for observation. Our NYC trip was extended until he is well enough to travel back home to Las Vegas.

Tony was so sorry to miss his New York events and wanted to let everyone know how much he missed seeing you all. We all thank you for the support, understanding and love you have extended to him, it really does make a huge difference. If all stays well, Tony will be back in New York in October and will hopefully be re-doing the Sardi's book signing.

Again, thank you to everyone who loves Tony. His spirits are high now and he is teasing the nurses!

Tony will be appearing in a live television interview on CW11 on Thursday, August 13 at 8:40am.

That evening (August 13th) Tony will be signing books and memorabilia at the World Famous Sardis Restaurant from 5-8pm, second floor dining room. Come on out and meet Tony!

On the morning of August 14th, Tony will be in Times Square for the "Kiss of the Century" photo op with Edith Shain, the young nurse from the iconic nurse/sailor kiss at the end of WWII.

Tony will be representing "Stories of Service", an organization dedicated to mobilizing young people to preserve the legacy of those who served. This will kick off a year long campaign to encourage young people to serve their country in the same way that Tony and others from the Greatest Generation did during World War II.

Tony's Navy Photo. Tony joined the US Navy's Submarine Service and witnessed the signing of the official surrender of the Japanese in Tokyo Bay on August 14, 1945.

My Art at Hotel Del Coronado

I currently have my art for sale in the shp at the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego. We filmed parts of Some Like it Hot at the hotel and it always holds a special place in my heart.

I will be at the hotel for their 50th Anniversary of the movie in Mid September. I will also be signing copies of my soon to be released book about the making of the movie.

Cataracts- Be Gone!

Had my first cataract removed today, all went well. It was easy, super quick and didn't hurt a bit. I will know in a few days how much better I will see, but they said the cataract was very thick and cloudy. Next week, the right eye!

My Vegas Book Signing

HUGE thank yous to all everyone who showed up at my book signing. What a crowd, I was told over 600 people showed up and not everyone could fit in the venue. We used an overflow room as well as monitors in the lobby. I am sorry to all who were turned away, I would have liked to say hello to you all. Thank you for coming to see me, I really do appreciate it so much. My hand actually cramped up from all of the signing- I eventually got it all done, but it did hurt at the end! Thanks to everyone who was so patient with me.

I am having my cataracts removed over the next two weeks. I am tired of having blurry eyesight and I have too much to do and see to have to deal with it anymore.

In a few weeks I am heading off to NYC for some work with the US Navy, which I am a big supporter of. I will be doing a few book signings there as well, so if you are in the area, come on down and say hi. You can find more info on my website over the next week.

We are working on setting up a Facebook page for me, once it is up and going, I will add a link here and we can all be pals over the internet.

We visited the Torre Argentina Square today, this is the place where Julius Ceasar was assasinated. It is also home to the Torre Argentina Cat Sanctuary.

We had a great visit and Jillie and I did a long distance adoption for three of their cats. We will support each cat each month. (You can see more photos of our visit on Shiloh's blog.)

Thanks again for all my birthday wishes, I read every one of them. It means a lot to me...

Also on my birthday, I attended the Las Vegas Licensing Show and Convention with my branding/licensing company that I am working with, Fame Farm. We met lots of people interested in using my image and art work on products, etc. It is very interesting and I really do like the idea of branding myself.

Here I am with the guys from las Vegas' Thunder from Down Under. We had a great time hanging out, they are a nice bunch of guys.

Something that has really made me angry in the past few days is that some "reporter" has been calling my wife's family members and telling them that he has a "credible source" that claims that I am being locked and sequestered in my home and am being sedated. Can you believe this crap? Here I am traveling the world, Hungary, London, Wales, Ireland, Chicago, and getting ready to head to Los Angeles and Italy in a few day's time, and this is being said about me? Obviously, this "reporter" has not taken the time to actually look at my website or read my blog. People are nuts...

Today is my 84th birthday!

My trip to London was wonderful, we also loved Wales and Belfast. I am home for about a week and then off to Rome for a Holiday. No work, just relaxation...

I have been so busy, sorry that I haven't blogged in a while.

My trip to Hungary was fantastic, it was so great to speak Hungarian again and Budapest is such a beautiful city. I am currently at home, but am leaving for London next week for the release of my book, American Prince, as a paperback in the UK. I will also be appearing at the London Expo autograph show and will be holding a large art show at Harrods.

In fact, my art is already at Harrods, so if you live close by there, please go on in a take a look. I hope to see some of my fans at the autograph show and at the art show. You can find moire info about these events on my website.

I am also in the process of finishing up my latest book which is all about the filming of Some Like it Hot. It's behind the scene stuff. I just received the first rough draft of the manuscript. I am also currently working on a coffee table book of photographs of my box assemblages and some poetry.

It's hot here in Vegas so I am spending my days swimming in my pool and relaxing before I hit the road again.
